Where in the World is JR Now? Answer: Camiguin Island, MinDAnao, Philippines

Mantigue Island, Camiguin, Philippines
So...it's been a while huh, guys? First things first I am still alive.

I can't think up any fancy excuse why I've been missing in action for more than a year, other than the simple fact that this website is called Drifter Journals because I have this crazy habit of drifting.

To answer the above question, where in the world am I, I am here...Sagay Town, Camiguin Island, Mindanao, Philippines. A tiny blip on the map, but it's the place I call home for now.
Sagay Town is the center of native Camiguignon culture on the island. The old language is still spoken here in Sagay, as opposed to the more popular Cebuano language spoken throughout most of the island.

Life here is pretty simple. It's one of the smaller towns on the island, literally on the opposite end from the main town of Mambajao, and equally as far in pace, language and culture.

Drifter Tips: Tech to help you trek

There is no doubt the way we research book and travel have changed considerably since the advent of digital technology.

While some reminisce through rose tinted glasses about the glory days of travelling before the advent of mobile phones, the internet & any other piece of kit you care to think about I’m going to argue quite opposite. Below are my top weird and wonderful bits of tech & gadgetry that make the life of a traveller that little bit easier.

Mobile devices

Mobile phones, tablets & ipads are essential bits of technology that will help your travelling experience be as fluid as possible. While it’s not necessary to have all three of these things one is a must. As long as the mobile phone has internet access you can browse the latest reviews of your next destination, check out the nightlife of the area, book last minute cheap flights or accommodation or even check out an places that offer free night’s sleep from local hosts. Whichever way you look at it the freedom and flexibility in the way we travel offered by any of these devices can only be a good thing.

A mobile photo lens

This one sounds a bit crazy but is perfect for the money conscious about to embark on a trip. Why shell out for an expensive digital camera or a clunky fragile SLR? This beauty will clip onto your phone over the existing camera porthole to give you those professional looking shots at a fraction of the price.

Relay your action in real time

Social Media is unavoidable these days and is a great way of keeping your loved ones at home in the loop. By being able to upload your latest pictures, written updates and tagging your location – you can let everyone know exactly where you are in real time, which is great, especially for concerned family members back at home!

And now we ask you - Is there a travel essential you can’t live without? Or do you feel tech should be trashed?

The greatest thing about vacationing in the United States is all the destinations made available to travelers. Where most nations are smaller and limited to what they can offer tourist, sightseeing in the United States could literally take someone a lifetime.

Whether you want a warm, beach vacation; a snowy, skiing experience; or a thrilling, rollercoaster extravaganza, the United States can offer up vacation destinations for everyone (no matter how picky they are).

Brazil is Heating Up for the World Cup
There’s nothing quite like a plan coming together perfectly at the last minute. That’s what Brazil is counting on anyway.

With fifty days left until the start of the World Cup Tournament Jeroke Valcke, FIFA’s Secretary General, announced that some of Brazil’s preparations—namely Sao Paulo’s football stadium—wouldn’t be ready “until the last minute.” In fact, as of the publication of this article, there are three stadiums yet to be completed.
