Vietnamese Coffee: How I Found Myself Obsessed & Instructions on How to Join Me

I had Vietnamese coffee at lunch a couple Sundays ago. "Big deal," you might say. Well, it is a big deal, for me. You see, living in Taiwan, I've been deprived of conveniently accessible truly gourmet coffee for over three years now, and it's time for me to fight for my rights to again be obsessed with all things coffee bean along with any of it's aromatic byproducts.
Lunch was not the first time I had ever tasted Vietnamese coffee. I can still think back now when my friend Scott got back from his trip through Southeast Asia, and one of the things he'd unpacked from his travels was a small tin contraption made up of several parts. I hadn't understood it at the time, but this filter would eventually TURN MY WORLD UPSIDE DOWN!

On a recent Facebook Page post I asked the travel question: Would you rather...be fluent in every language OR master all the instruments in the world? It sparked off a series of interesting replies from both sides of the coin, and even one that was like a whole other coin in itself.  Here are some of the replies and reasons given.

Adventure Junkie: Jordan Costa
Homebase: Haiku, Maui, Hawai'i

For as long as I've known him, my friend Jordan Costa has always been an adventure drifting junkie.

Born and raised on the island of Maui, Hawai'i, he has traveled around the globe in search of any adventure he can get his hands on.

He has gone snowboarding, bungee jumping, diving, racing, dog sledding and so on in places like Oregon, Texas, Canada, Mexico and more.

As a Hawai'i born local boy, the water is Jordan's second home.

A couple of weeks ago I caught up with Jordan for a quick interview on what it's like for an adventure junkie like him to have the beaches of Hawai'i as his backyard. We talked about one of his favorite past times, spearfishing.

Here are just a few of things he shared with me...

Watch this video first and test your whale knowledge!
Have you ever been to Hawaii to witness the annual migration of humpback whales there? Recently, my friend Makana Vianzos was out fishing off the coast of the Hawaiian island of Moloka'i when their group encountered a pod of beautiful humpback whales singing and welcoming in the day.
For centuries, the ocean had been plentiful with humpback whales. But the dawn of the 20th century saw the beginning of commercial whaling on a  grand scale and the decline of this beautiful marine species.
